The Ranger has quickly become a popular platform for modification. Lift kits, larger tires, and performance tunes are common, putting additional stress on the drivetrain.
Raptor
The Ranger Raptor brings serious off-road capability with upgraded suspension and the 3.0L EcoBoost V6 (405 HP). This dedicated off-road variant pushes the platform's limits.

Ranger Clutch FAQs
Common questions about Ranger clutches
What clutch for a tuned EcoBoost Ranger?
Tuned 2.3L EcoBoost Rangers gain significant power:
- Stage 1 tune (300 HP): Stage 2 Endurance handles this well
- Stage 2 tune (350+ HP): Stage 3 recommended
- Big turbo builds: Stage 3 Endurance or multi-disc
The turbocharged torque spike demands a clutch that can handle peak loads.
Do I need a clutch upgrade for bigger tires?
Larger tires increase clutch load:
- 32" tires: Stock clutch usually adequate
- 33" tires: Stage 2 recommended for off-road use
- 35"+ tires: Stage 2 Endurance or Stage 3
Combined with lift kits and regular trail use, upgrading the clutch prevents premature wear.
Classic Ranger clutch options?
For the 1983-2011 Rangers:
- Stock 4.0L (207 HP): Stage 2 Daily for improvements over stock
- Modified 4.0L: Stage 2 Endurance for additional capacity
- Engine swaps: Contact us for specific recommendations
These trucks remain popular for builds. We have solutions for various configurations.
Best clutch for towing?
If you regularly tow with your Ranger:
- Light towing: Stock clutch is adequate
- Regular towing near capacity: Stage 2 for increased durability
- Heavy towing with mods: Stage 2 Endurance
Towing puts sustained load on the clutch, especially on grades. Upgraded friction materials handle the heat better.
