996 911 (1998-2004)

Water-Cooled Era Begins

The 996 marked Porsche's transition to water cooling with the M96 flat-six producing 296-320 HP in Carrera form. The GT3 variant pushed output to 360-381 HP with a more aggressive camshaft and increased rev limit.

The Turbo variant (996 Turbo) produced 415-444 HP with twin turbochargers. These cars remain popular for modification, with bolt-on builds easily exceeding 500 HP.

The 997 refined the 996's formula with improved engines and chassis dynamics. The 997.2 Carrera gained the direct-injected 3.6L (345 HP), while the GT3 pushed to 415-435 HP.

Modern 911
