Porsche Clutch FAQs
Common questions about Porsche clutches
What clutch for a 997 Turbo?
The 997 Turbo's Mezger engine handles impressive power:
- Stock (480-530 HP): Stage 2 Endurance or Stage 3
- Modified (600-750 HP): Stage 3 or Dual Disc
- Big turbo (800+ HP): Triple Disc for reliability
The Mezger's torque capacity is legendary. Match your clutch to your boost level.
GT3 track day clutch recommendations?
GT3s see intense track use. Recommendations:
- Casual track days: Stage 2 Endurance
- Regular HPDE: Stage 3 for heat capacity
- Time Attack: Stage 3 Endurance or Dual Disc
The GT3's high-RPM operation demands clutches that can handle repeated 8,000+ RPM shifts.
Can I use a lightweight flywheel?
Lightweight flywheels are popular on track Porsches:
- Street/track: Stock weight for daily driveability
- Track focused: Lightweight for improved response
- Competition: Lightweight is standard
The flat-six's inherent smoothness means lightweight flywheels work well with minimal NVH impact.
Single mass vs dual mass flywheel?
Porsche uses dual mass flywheels for refinement:
- Dual mass: Smoother, quieter, OEM character
- Single mass: Quicker revs, improved response
- Multi-disc kits: Include matched single mass
Many track-focused owners prefer single mass. Street cars often keep dual mass for comfort.
