Chevy Camaro Clutch Kits & Upgrades
From LS1-powered 4th gens to LT4-powered ZL1s, South Bend Clutch offers performance clutch solutions for every generation of Camaro. Whether you're building a street car or a dedicated drag racer, we have the clutch to handle your power.
Performance Clutches for LS & LT Powered Camaros
The Chevrolet Camaro has been GM's answer to the Ford Mustang since 1967. Today's Camaros carry on that tradition with some of the most capable V8 engines ever produced—the LS and LT families. These engines respond incredibly well to modifications, especially forced induction.
Whether you're running a naturally-aspirated LS3 or a supercharged LT4, the factory clutch becomes a limitation as power increases. South Bend Clutch offers complete solutions from stock-replacement to full competition.
- Complete coverage for 4th, 5th, and 6th gen Camaros
- Clutches rated from 400 to 1,500+ HP
- T56 and TR6060 applications
- Street-friendly dual disc options
- Complete kits with all hardware
- Built for LS/LT torque curves
4th Gen Camaro (1993-2002)
The LS Revolution Begins
The fourth-generation Camaro introduced the legendary LS1 engine in 1998, forever changing the performance landscape. This 5.7L aluminum V8 produced 305-325 horsepower in a lightweight package, and more importantly, it responded incredibly well to modifications. The LS platform would go on to power countless project cars, swaps, and race builds.
Even the earlier LT1-powered 4th gens (1993-1997) remain popular. The 275-horsepower LT1 is a capable engine that shares many bolt-ons with the small-block Chevy legacy. Forced induction can push both LT1 and LS1 4th gens well past 500 horsepower.
Transmission Options
The T56 6-speed manual became standard equipment in SS and Z28 models, offering a perfect platform for high-power builds. The T56 handles 450+ horsepower with stock internals and 700+ with supporting mods and proper clutch selection.
4th Gen Specifications
- Engine LT1/LS1
- LS1 HP 305-325
- LT1 HP 275
- Transmission T56 6-Speed
- Weight 3,400-3,500 lbs
- Clutch Size 11 Inch
5th Gen Camaro (2010-2015)
The Return of the Camaro
After an 8-year hiatus, the Camaro returned in 2010 with retro styling and modern performance. The SS featured the LS3 (6.2L, 426 HP) or L99 with Active Fuel Management. The range-topping ZL1 packed a supercharged LSA making 580 horsepower.
The 5th gen's biggest criticism was its weight—over 3,800 lbs in most configurations. But that mass came with structural rigidity that made it an excellent platform for high-power builds. Supercharged and turbocharged 5th gens regularly exceed 700 horsepower.
Clutch Requirements
The TR6060 6-speed manual is a robust transmission that handles the power well. The clutch becomes the weak link in high-power applications. South Bend's multi-disc clutches are designed specifically for the demands of boosted LS power.
5th Gen Specifications
- Engine LS3/L99/LSA
- SS HP 426
- ZL1 HP 580
- Transmission TR6060
- Weight 3,800+ lbs
- Clutch Size 11 Inch
6th Gen Camaro (2016-2024)
Lighter, Faster, Better
The sixth-generation Camaro addressed the 5th gen's weight issues while adding sophisticated chassis technology. The Alpha platform shed nearly 300 pounds while improving rigidity. The result is a car that can genuinely compete with European sports cars on any road course.
Engine options range from the turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder to the supercharged 6.2L LT4 in the ZL1 (650 horsepower). The naturally-aspirated LT1 in the SS makes 455 horsepower and is an excellent platform for boost. The 1LE package adds serious track capability.
Transmission Notes
The TR6060 continues in the SS, while the ZL1 offers both the TR6060 manual and a 10-speed automatic. The Tremec handles the power well, but high-torque boosted applications benefit from upgraded clutches.
6th Gen Specifications
- Engine LT1/LT4
- SS HP 455
- ZL1 HP 650
- Transmission TR6060/10-Speed
- Weight 3,400-3,700 lbs
- Clutch Size 11 Inch

Camaro Clutch FAQs
Common questions about Camaro clutches
What clutch for a boosted LS?
For supercharged or turbocharged LS Camaros, clutch selection depends on power level:
- 450-600 HP: Stage 3 single disc with ceramic friction
- 600-800 HP: Dual disc clutch
- 800+ HP: Triple disc for maximum holding power
Boost creates high torque loads that overwhelm stock clutches quickly. Size your clutch for your actual power level, not your current mods.
T56 vs TR6060 - what's the difference?
The TR6060 is an evolution of the T56 with key improvements:
- Stronger internals: Higher torque rating from factory
- Better synchros: Smoother shifts, especially when cold
- Revised ratios: Optimized for modern engines
Both transmissions use the same clutch size (11") and spline count (26). South Bend clutches work with either transmission.
Can I use my stock flywheel?
For single-disc clutch upgrades, your stock flywheel can often be reused if it's in good condition. Have it inspected for hot spots and resurfaced before installation.
Multi-disc clutch kits (dual and triple disc) require our specific flywheel, which is included in the kit.
For high-power boosted applications, we recommend our billet steel flywheel for maximum strength and heat resistance.
