Bronco Clutch FAQs
Common questions about Bronco clutches
What clutch for a tuned 2.7L Bronco?
Tuned 2.7L EcoBoost Broncos produce significant power:
- Stage 1 tune (350 HP): Stage 2 Endurance handles this well
- Stage 2 tune (400+ HP): Stage 3 recommended
- Big power builds: Stage 3 Endurance or multi-disc
The turbocharged torque spike is demanding on clutches. Size for your actual power level.
Does rock crawling damage the clutch?
Rock crawling is demanding on clutches due to:
- Low-speed, high-torque operation
- Repeated engagement on steep inclines
- Heat buildup during technical sections
The MT88's crawler gear helps, but the clutch still works hard. Stage 2 Endurance or Stage 3 is recommended for regular rock crawling.
Will 37" tires require a clutch upgrade?
Tire size significantly affects clutch load:
- 33" tires: Stock clutch usually adequate
- 35" tires: Stage 2 recommended for trail use
- 37"+ tires: Stage 2 Endurance or Stage 3 strongly recommended
Larger tires multiply torque requirements, especially during low-speed maneuvering.
Best clutch for Sasquatch Package?
The Sasquatch Package includes 35" tires from factory:
- Stock power: Stage 2 for additional headroom
- With tune: Stage 2 Endurance minimum
- Trail/rock crawling use: Stage 3 for peace of mind
The combination of factory big tires and capable chassis means these Broncos see serious use. Plan accordingly.
