B5 S4/RS4 (1999-2002)
The Legend Begins
The B5 S4 brought Audi's twin-turbo 2.7L V6 to America with 250 HP. The platform proved incredibly capable, with modified examples regularly exceeding 400 HP on stock internals.
The RS4 Avant (Europe only) pushed the 2.7T to 380 HP. B5 S4s remain popular for modification due to their robust engine and AWD system.
Quattro Advantage
Audi's quattro AWD system puts significant stress on the clutch during hard launches. The symmetric all-wheel drive system transfers power efficiently, demanding proper clutch capacity.

Audi Clutch FAQs
Common questions about Audi clutches
What clutch for a Stage 2 B8 S4?
Stage 2 3.0T builds produce significant power:
- Stage 1 (380 HP): Stage 2 Endurance handles this reliably
- Stage 2 (430-450 HP): Stage 3 recommended
- Stage 2+ (500+ HP): Stage 3 Endurance or Dual Disc
The supercharged 3.0T's torque is demanding. Size your clutch for peak torque output.
How does quattro affect clutch choice?
Audi's quattro AWD impacts clutch requirements:
- More grip during launches means more clutch load
- All four wheels transfer power simultaneously
- Size your clutch ~50 HP higher than equivalent RWD
Our clutches are designed specifically for the demands of quattro launches.
B5 S4 clutch options?
The B5 S4's 2.7T is legendary for modification:
- Stock-350 HP: Stage 2 Daily
- 350-500 HP: Stage 3 recommended
- 500+ HP (big turbo): Dual Disc for reliability
The 2.7T's torque spike can be harsh on clutches. Plan for your target power level.
Single mass vs dual mass flywheel?
Audi uses dual mass flywheels for refinement:
- Dual mass: Smoother, quieter, OEM character
- Single mass: More responsive, some gear noise
- Multi-disc kits: Include matched single mass
For street cars prioritizing comfort, dual mass is often preferred. Track builds benefit from single mass response.
